Inspired by a booze-fueled encounter with an idiot, and an equally inebriated time with a possessed lady friend, Matt Berry has created a sort of horror prog folk album that could have gone very wrong, but instead goes very right. Known primarily for his acting in comedies such as Snuff Box, The Mighty Boosh, and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, Berry is equally, if not more talented, in his musical abilities. “Kill The Wolf” is Berry’s second album and is a thoroughly enjoyable listen, and while some may complain of the lack of humor in the album, I think that humor is beside the point. It’s a general consensus that celebrity musical endeavors are usually cringe inducing, but Berry is extremely accomplished in his writing, singing, and even plays the majority of the instruments here. What blows our mind is that he’s taken a category of music that we find loathsome, and made it enjoyable. He’s the one person who could pull out an acoustic guitar at a party and we wouldn’t think he’s an asshole. Give a listen here and let us know what you think.
